We are delighted to announce that the inaugural North East Boxing Awards, sponsored by Portland Consulting Engineering, in aid of Sport Newcastle, were a huge local success! Several personalities from the region’s boxing scene were in attendance to mark the occasion.
When we started ‘BBB’ two years ago this very month, our main aim was to shine a light on the unheralded world of North East boxing. We have long felt that the region’s sport doesn’t get the recognition it deserves, in comparison to the noted hotbeds of Liverpool and Manchester, for example. Hopefully, this is about to change with two current British champions and a whole load of boxers with the potential to really push on.
The awards ceremony was a great chance for us to showcase some of the talent up here and reward those involved for their hard work and dedication.
The winners are as follows:
Boxer of the Year – Tommy Ward
Trainer of the Year – Neil Fannan
Referee of the Year – Ron Kearney
Prospect of the Year – Josh Kelly
Fight of the Year – Dan Cope vs Tom Whitfield II
Promoter of the Year – Steve Wraith
Boxing Legend – John Davison
