This Saturday evening MGM Birmingham host their inaugural boxing show ‘First of Many’. A show which has been months in the making, will lay the foundations for regular boxing action returning to Birmingham on a frequent basis for years to come.
The ‘First of Many’ is not only MGM Birmingham’s first ever boxing show, it is also Tudor Grange Leisure Centre’s first time staging a boxing event. With the range of facilities in Tudor Grange, it serves as the perfect location.
The evening’s action is headlined by local favourite Michael Rooney in a six round contest. This will mark Rooney’s first appearance since his shock knockout loss in the opening round to local rival Marcus Ffrench in March earlier this year. Ffrench also features on the bill in four roud action, a victory for both men could lead to a rematch in the not too distant future.
Liverpool’s James Metcalf is also in four round action, making a quick-fire return to the ring after an impressive TKO victory at Goodison Park. Boasting a 12-0 record, Metcalf is beginning to gain some serious momentum and he will be targeting a third consecutive stoppage on Saturday night.
Buncrana’s John Hutchinson features over four rounds. Hutchinson is looking to pick up another victory and build on the success of his last performance. Also appearing on the bill is Irish Heavyweight Sean Turner, hoping to pick up victory number eight.
Telford’s Arron Fiaz and Northampton’s Drew Brown are eager to build on promising debut performances. Both men are scheduled to appear in four round contests and complete the evening’s action. Billed as ‘The First of Many’ you sense this is more than just a title for a fight poster, it is a mission statement to the boxing fans of Birmingham.
